Within the consumer books sector of the book publishing market, children's books experienced particularly strong growth in 2000, partly on the strength of the popularity of the Harry Potter books. Key Note forecasts that children's books will continue to play an important part in terms of growth in consumer book sales. In the shorter term, the forthcoming Harry Potter film will no doubt help to sustain the momentum achieved so far by this publishing phenomenon. The main reason for the recovery of the consumer sector during 2000 was the strong growth of the children's sector.
